I feel compelled to reply to a letter from Paul Moore of PETA. Moore quotes Latter-day Saint scripture as the basis for trying to convince the readers to become vegetarians.
As a member of the LDS Church, I question his interpretation of the 89th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants. If you read the scripture carefully, you will note that it says meat "should not be used only in time of winter or of cold or famine." In other words, it is not restricted to winter or cold or famine.
If Moore wants to turn the debate into a scriptural study, he should read D&C 49:18-19, which says, "And whoso forbiddeth to abstain from meats, that a man should not eat the same, is not ordained of God."
The final word should rest on the example of a resurrected Jesus, who ate fish and honeycomb with his apostles.
Frankly, I am tired of sanctimonious people telling me what I can and can't eat. If Mr. Moore wants to be a vegetarian, fine, but leave the rest of us alone to enjoy the food God has ordained for our use.
