FARMINGTON — With just a few days left to file for elective office, a number of candidates have paid their fees and filed for office in Davis County, although one potential candidate for County Commission, upon learning the filing fee is $463, decided not to file and walked out of the Memorial Courthouse.

Some candidates will wait until the last day, March 17, to file, said election coordinator Pat Beckstead. Three candidates have filed so far for the County Commission seat now held by Michael J. Cragun. Besides Cragun of Clearfield, others who have filed are Alan Hansen, also Clearfield, and Chris J. Martinez, Clinton. Cragun and Hansen are Republicans; Martinez is a Democrat.

Races drawing high interest in the county are those for Cragun's four-year commission seat and for House District 17 after long-term legislator Marda Dillree, R-Farmington, announced she is retiring.

Candidates for Dillree's seat so far are Ron Dunn, Farmington; Julie Fisher, Fruit Heights; Craig N. Johnson, Farmington; Todd Richardson, Fruit Heights; and Larry C. Livingston, Farmington. Livingston is the only Democrat; the rest are Republicans.

Most of the races have incumbent candidates who are unopposed at this point, although that could change in the next week.

In the nonpartisan Davis School District Board races, three candidates are unopposed. They are Barbara Smith, Bountiful, District 1; William P. Moore, Bountiful, District 2; and Marian Storey, Kaysville, District 4.

Deane L. Smith is unopposed in the race for the Mutton Hollow Township Planning Commission.

Richard Sadler, Ogden, is the only candidate who has filed for the State Board of Education District 4, which covers part of Davis and Weber counties.

Brad Dee, Washington Terrace incumbent, is the only filer for State House of Representatives, District 11, which covers part of Davis and Weber counties. In District 13 of the House of Representatives, Dana C. Love, Syracuse incumbent, is the only candidate so far. Both are Republicans.

Three candidates have filed for House District 14. They are incumbent Don E. Bush, Clearfield, Republican; Cheryl Phipps, Clearfield, Republican; and Tab L. Uno, Clearfield, Democrat.

Douglas C. Aagard, Kaysville, Republican incumbent, has filed for House District 15 as has Mark J. Burnside, Layton, Personal Choice Party. In House District 16, incumbent Stuart Adams, Layton, Republican; and Henry D. Bigelow, Layton, Democrat have filed.

Roger E. Barrus, Centerville, incumbent Republican, is the only candidate to file for House District 18. Incumbent Sheryl L. Allen, Bountiful, Republican, is the only candidate to file for her seat in District 19.

Incumbent Ann W. Hardy, Bountiful, Republican, has filed for her seat in District 20. She will be challenged by Kitchell Lynn Jones, North Salt Lake, Personal Choice.

Newcomer Sheldon Killpack, Syracuse, a Republican who was appointed to finish a term in state Senate District 21, is the only filer for his seat.

Incumbent Dan Eastman, Bountiful, Republican, has filed for state Senate District 23.
