BYU

SPONSORSHIP FOR WOMEN: BYU women's athletic administrators and Deseret Book executives have signed an agreement to sponsor several women's sporting events.

SOFTBALL: BYU (7-6) will compete in the New Mexico State Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M. on March 12-13.

DIVING: Justin Beardall and Scott Randall will compete in the NCAA Zone E competition at the Aquatics Center at Oklahoma City College Thursday through Saturday.

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Freshman Lauren Jones led No. 22 BYU to its fourth straight win on the road over the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State 4-0.

WOMEN'S GOLF: After a couple of uneven outings, BYU was back on track Monday, sitting in first place after round one at the Bobcat Desert Classic.

Utah

BASEBALL: Senior shortstop Jared Pena has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Utes to a 3-0 record with two wins over Southern Utah and a victory over Central Michigan last week.

DIVING: Sterling Richards will compete at the NCAA Diving Regional Qualifying round Thursday through Saturday in Oklahoma City.

UVSC

SOFTBALL: UVSC watched the title of the Royal Inn Invitational slip away Sunday as Simon Fraser University rallied for four runs in its final at-bat to clip the Wolverines 5-4 in the championship game of the Richland, Wash., tournament.

Utah State

GYMNASTICS: Freshman Gretchen Goerlitz scored a 9.950 on the floor to give the Utah State gymnastics team a 195.925 to 195.700 victory over Cal State Fullerton Monday night.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State's Mark Brown has been named the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Most Valuable Player. Brown was also named the Most Valuable Player in the Big West Conference by CollegeInsider.com as well as a Mid-Major All-American . . . Cardell Butler has been named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District VIII Team.

Southern Utah

BASEBALL: Central Michigan's Bryan Mitzel homered twice and drove in six runs to lead the Chippewas to a 15-5 victory over Southern Utah's baseball team Monday afternoon in Cedar City.
