Tiger Woods is running out of time to make a charge at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Woods made four birdies in the third round Saturday at Dubai, United Arab Emirates, finishing with a 3-under 69. He trails co-leaders Mark O'Meara and Paul McGinley by six strokes heading into the final round.
O'Meara, Woods' friend and Florida neighbor who is winless on the PGA Tour since 1998, carded a 4-under 68, while McGinley shot 69 for a tie at 202.
England's Brian Davis was three strokes off the lead after a 69, while countrymen Simon Dyson (70) and Paul Casey (70) and first-round leader Bradley Dredge (72) were five back.
Woods, coming off a victory in the Match Play Championship last week, believes the tournament is wide open.
"Anyone on that board over there can definitely do it tomorrow," Woods said. "If the winds get up, the guys coming from behind could definitely put some heat on the guys up ahead."
After a birdie at the third and bogey at the fifth, Woods made a dramatic 50-foot putt for birdie at No. 8.
He hit his drive left into sandy wasteland off the fairway. With his legs against some scrub, Woods guided a 6-iron around a few palm trees and onto the back of the green. He the made the long putt for birdie.
"The second shot was a good one," said Woods, who added birdies at Nos. 13 and 16. "But the third shot was all luck making it from that far.
"I hit so many good putts today. I just have got to hit them a little firmer."
O'Meara, whose last significant wins came at the 1998 Masters and British Open, expects a final-round surge from Woods.
"I wouldn't put it past him to come out and make a run tomorrow," O'Meara said of Woods. "That's his style.
"But I think he's going to have to shoot a very low score. Because I know Paul is playing well, and I'm not playing too bad."
O'Meara had five birdies, including three straight in a stretch on the back nine when he briefly took the lead.FORD CHAMPIONSHIP AT DORAL: At Miami, Craig Parry shot a 5-under 67 in the third round, moving to 13-under 203 and taking a one-shot lead over Gene Sauers (64) and Scott Verplank (65).
MASTERCARD CLASSIC: At Huixquilucan, Mexico, Graham Marsh of Australia shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds in the Champions Tour event. The 60-year-old Marsh had five birdies on the front nine and two birdies and a bogey on the back to move to 8-under 136.
