About 150 soldiers from the Utah National Guard's 148th Field Artillery have been notified that they may be mobilized later in the year. Meanwhile, 10 public affairs specialists were called up.

The artillerists are from batteries located in Logan, Brigham City and Camp Williams.

Their parent outfit, the 116th Cavalry Brigade, headquartered in Boise, was notified they may be called to active duty. Almost 3,500 soldiers from 14 states, members of the 116th or associated units, received notices of the possible call-up.

"The brigade is anticipated to be part of the next force rotation in Iraq, but their official mission has yet to be released," Utah National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Brad Blackner said in a press release.

The alert does not guarantee that the soldiers will deploy. "Soldiers should continue with their everyday lives but also use this time to put their personal, financial and family affairs in order in the event of an extended, long-term deployment," said Lt. Col. Jerry Acton, commander of the 145th Field Artillery Battalion, according to the release. Acton manages the 148th while the unit is in Utah.

In addition, the Utah Guard's 128th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, based in Draper, was mobilized this week.
