Grizzlies rally to dump Spurs
The Spurs, who played a second game without injured Tim Duncan, made only one field goal in the final 9:27. The Grizzlies steadily chipped away and went ahead for the first time on a 3-pointer by Earl Watson midway through the fourth quarter.
Malik Rose put San Antonio back ahead 80-79 with two free throws at 1:08, and the Spurs rebounded Shane Battier's missed 17-footer.
Then the Grizzlies had their best defensive possessions in the final minute.
First they forced San Antonio point guard Jason Hart into a shot-clock violation with 28.9 seconds left.
Then, after Wright put back his own short shot, their tight coverage made it hard for the Spurs to get a final shot.
Rose drove the baseline in the waning seconds, but he took his shot while falling backward. It hit off the front of the rim and James Posey scrapped for the rebound as time expired.
Watson led Memphis with 13 points, while Wright had 12 and Pau Gasol 11.
Hedo Turkoglu paced San Antonio with 19 points and Rasho Nesterovic added 18 and 10 rebounds. Manu Ginobili had 15 points and a career-high nine assists.
Ginobili opened the final period with a 3-pointer to give the Spurs their largest lead, 71-57. He then fed Turkoglu for another 3-pointer .
CELTICS 117, MAGIC 96: At Boston, Mark Blount had career highs of 28 points and 21 rebounds — the Celtics' first 20-20 game in 10 years — and Boston scored the first 25 points of the fourth quarter.
The Celtics won their third consecutive game and just their fourth under interim coach John Carroll, who took over when Jim O'Brien resigned on Jan. 27. Blount had his fifth consecutive double-double, Paul Pierce scored 25 point with nine assists, Brandon Hunter had seven points and 12 rebounds, and Chucky Atkins had 17 points and nine assists for Boston.
Tracy McGrady, the NBA's leading scorer, had 29 points for Orlando after playing just two minutes in the first quarter because of foul trouble. Tyronn Lue had 14 points and 11 assists for the Magic, which had won five of the last seven since an eight-game losing streak.
Orlando was within five, 87-82, when Steven Hunter scored on a putback dunk at the third quarter buzzer. That sent the officials to the videotape before they confirmed it came before time expired.
But the Magic did not score again until Drew Gooden hit two free throws with 4:19 left in the game.
That's when Blount came out. The victory in hand, the crowd cheered on its way out of the building.
