An emeritus general authority for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints remains in serious condition in a Salt Lake hospital after a car accident Thursday. LDS Church spokesman Dale Bills said Friday that Elder Featherstone continues to improve and his injuries are not life-threatening.
Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone, 72, president of the Logan Temple, is recovering from a skull fracture after his car hit a pair of horses near Afton, Wyo., said Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper Brad Anderson. Featherstone and his wife, Merlene, were driving back to Logan Wednesday night after speaking to a group of Boy Scouts near Grover, Wyo.
The first horse was decapitated. The second smashed through the car's windshield on the driver's side and peeled the roof off the Featherstones' car down to the trunk, Anderson said.
Elder Featherstone received a CT scan at a Wyoming hospital that reportedly revealed a skull fracture, a possible fractured cheek and other injuries, Anderson said. He was then transported to LDS Hospital.
Merlene Featherstone suffered a cut to her hand, possibly from flying glass, Anderson said. She was treated at a hospital in Afton and released.
