The NAACP turned 95 Thursday, and the Salt Lake branch of the organization celebrated with a Founder's Day reception at the Little America Hotel.
The national NAACP was founded as the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Abraham Lincoln's birthday in 1909. The Salt Lake branch NAACP was formed 10 years later. The NAACP describes itself as "the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the world."
This year, the NAACP is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education lawsuit that ruled segregation in public schools unconstitutional.
