GARY, Ind. Ryan Toolson scored 17 points as Utah Valley State won, 75-52, its second straight over Indiana University-Northwest on Monday night.
Toolson led UVSC over the same Redhawk team on Saturday with a 19-point effort. He scored the Wolverines' first points of each half Monday as UVSC led from start to finish. UVSC led by as many as 18 points, 33-15, in the first half, before going to the break up 10, 37-27.
Toolson's opening basket of the second half sparked UVSC on a 17-6 run to open the final half. And any passing thoughts the Redhawks had of an upset were gone when UVSC coach Dick Hunsaker emptied his bench with the Wolverines leading 53-33 with 12 minutes remaining in the game.
Toolson led four Wolverines in double figures. Pierre Thomas added 15 points, and Jon Bell and Carl Lee each chipped in 10 points. Bell posted his third straight double-double by adding 12 rebounds to go with his 10 points.
Led by Bell's 12 boards, UVSC outrebounded the Redhawks 45-24. UVSC's 17 offensive rebounds were especially impressive considering the Wolverines shot 55 percent (34-62) for the game. IUNW shot just 37 percent (21-57). UVSC's next game is in Dillon, Mont., where the Wolverines take on the University of Montana-Western.
