A two-alarm fire left about $200,000 in damage to an east Salt Lake house early Sunday.
Someone concerned about smoke in the area of a house near 2100 East and 1700 South called the fire department at 4:41 a.m., Salt Lake fire spokesman Dennis McKone said. When firefighters arrived, flames were showing.
A second alarm was called because of intense fire and snowy and cold weather. Fire was confined to the roof and attic; and the roof collapsed from the large amount of fire. It took about one hour for 35 firefighters and personnel to get the blaze under control, McKone said.
Occupants and pets escaped safely from the house. The cause remained under investigation Sunday night, McKone said.
