PHOENIX Pierre Thomas and Jon Bell just missed double-doubles to lead Utah Valley State (14-4) past Southwestern College (5-22) 82-38 Friday night, extending the Wolverines' win streak to 13 games.
With UVSC struggling to find its rhythm early in the game, Thomas and Bell were instrumental in helping UVSC to a 10-10 tie just seven minutes into the contest. The two combined for eight of UVSC's first 10 points.
Once the remainder of the Wolverines joined step with Thomas and Bell, Southwestern was no match for UVSC. Over the final 12:24 of the first half, UVSC outscored the Eagles 31-6, and went to halftime leading 41-16.
SWC scored the first five points of the second half, but it was irrelevant as all but one Wolverine scored in UVSC's eighth road-win of the season.
Thomas had 11 points and eight rebounds; Bell added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
UVSC's Ronnie Price had a game-high 19 points and four 3-pointers. Ryan Toolson, the 2003 Arizona Player of the Year, also had four threes and 14 points, while David Heck added 10 points for the Wolverines.
Jared Kavlie was the Eagles' leading scorer with 10 points.
As a team, UVSC was 12-28 (42.9) from three-point range. SWC was 2-14 (14.3). The Wolverines also had a 47-27 edge in rebounding.
UVSC hosts Johnson & Wales College tonight at 9 p.m.
