Clutch free throws lift UVSC over So. Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. — Ryan Toolson and Ronnie Price each hit a pair of free throws in the game's final 30 seconds to secure Utah Valley State's 12th consecutive win, 67-64, over Southern Virginia University.

UVSC led by nine, 61-52, with 2:39 remaining. But Southern Virginia went on a 7-0 run to trim UVSC's advantage to 61-59.

The teams exchanged buckets, Price scoring for UVSC and David Tarwater hitting a 3-pointer for the Knights, making it 63-62 for UVSC with less than a minute remaining in the game.

Price hit consecutive free throws with 25 seconds remaining to boost UVSC's advantage back to three, 65-62. Baily Beckstead then made two free throws for Southern Virginia with 10 seconds left, trimming UVSC's advantage back to one point. Toolson answered with his two free throws with nine seconds left to ice the game for the Wolverines.

UVSC (13-4) led 5-0 to start the game and 13-2 with six minutes gone and by as many as 12 points before ending the half up 29-24.

The Knights opened the second half scoring the first six points and take their first lead of the game, 30-29, with 17:29 left to play. UVSC responded, regaining the lead and building its advantage back to the nine-point bulge it enjoyed with 2:39 left.

UVSC finished with four players, Price (16), Toolson (14), Jon Bell (12) and Carl Lee (10), scoring in double figures. The Knights were led by Ryan Henderson's 25 points, Ryan Farnworth's 17 and Beckstead's 17.
