If you've never considered volunteering together as a family, now is the time to get in to the fun. There are several opportunities in the Utah County area.
Residents of the Cambry House for assisted living enjoy several weekly activities that require volunteers. Families with children are invited to visit with the residents and join in activities.
Not all residents receive visitors at the weekly party for families and grandchildren, so families have the opportunity to start a new friendship each Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Activities, crafts and refreshments are included. Each Sunday a Victorian high tea and social is held from 3 to 5 p.m. Family Home Evenings are held Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m.
Other volunteer opportunities in Utah County include:Centro Hispano needs volunteers, especially Spanish-speaking, to help one or more mornings per week, preferably through April. Training is required.
The Children's Justice Center, which aids physically and sexually abused children, need eight volunteers for child-care assistance in their office. Volunteers play with children between 4 and 11 years old. A commitment of two hours per week is required.
Help with the Road to Recovery Program and the American Cancer Society. Volunteers can provide transportation assistance to cancer patients in Utah Valley. Twenty volunteers are needed to transport cancer patients to and from their treatment appointments. Flexible, mostly daytime hours are when volunteers are needed most.
For more information about these and other volunteer opportunities, contact the United Way of Utah County Volunteer Center weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 374-8108 or visit the Volunteer Database on the United Way of Utah County Web site www.unitedwayuc.org.
