No relief from the temperature inversion is expected for the Wasatch Front valleys, at least not until the weekend.

Patchy fog and haze dominate the forecast from the National Weather Service through Saturday night, when a 30 percent chance of snow is predicted. It is hoped that storm will pack enough punch to clear out the pollution and cold air.

Salt Lake City's afternoon high today should be in the mid-20s, with overnight lows near 10 degrees. Salt Lake City and Provo both reached 27 degrees for a high Tuesday, while St. George was 54.

Salt Lake City also tied the record Tuesday for the greatest number of consecutive days with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees or below. Wednesday is likely to be the record-breaker at 19 straight days.

Davis, Salt Lake, Weber, Utah and Cache counties all have a "red" (no burn) status today, under what is described as "unhealthy" air.
