Grizzlies suffer road shutout to the Wolves

The Utah Grizzlies lost on the road in Chicago 5-0 on Wednesday. Utah will play at Grand Rapids on Friday and Milwaukee on Saturday. Utah's record dropped to 12-19-3-3.

In other Grizzlies news, goaltender Ron Tugnutt has been reassigned to the Grizzlies by NHL affiliate Dallas after clearing waivers earlier Wednesday. He was to join the team in time for Wednesday's game at Chicago.

The Stars have recalled goaltender Mike Smith from the Grizzlies. Smith will be with Dallas for its game Thursday night against Atlanta.

Tugnutt, 36, has played five games with the Stars this season, posting a 1-3-0 record with a 2.57 goals against average. The Scarborough, Ontario, native is a veteran of 531 NHL games posting a 184-235-62 record with a 3.06 goals against average.

Last year with Dallas, Tugnutt went 15-10-5 with a 2.47 goals against average and four shutouts. Tugnutt has twice been named an NHL All-Star and during the 1998-99 season started the All-Star Classic while a member of the Ottawa Senators.

Tugnutt's best season came while a member of the Senators during the 1998-99 campaign when he went 22-10-8 with a 1.79 goals against average, the lowest since Phil Esposito's 1.77 average during the 1971-72 campaign.

Smith, 21, is 7-9-0 with Utah this season with a 2.86 goals against average, a .909 save percentage and one shutout. The Kingston, Ontario, native was named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 7th when he went 3-0 with a 0.67 goals against average and a .975 save percentage over that week.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound netminder was originally a fifth-round selection (161st overall) of the Stars in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

JANCEVSKI ALL-STAR STARTER: Grizzlies defenseman Dan Jancevski has been named a starter for Team Canada in the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic to be played Feb. 9 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The third-year Grizzly is the fifth Utah player selected to be in the AHL All-Star game joining last year's All-Star Most Valuable Player Jon Sim (2002-'03), Greg Hawgood ('01-'02), Gregor Baumgartner ('01-'02) and the late Roman Lyashenko ('01-'02).

Jancevski, 22, is is a former second-round selection (66th overall) of the Dallas Stars in the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft. In his career, he has scored four goals and added 30 assists with 419 penalty minutes.

This season, the Windsor, Ontario native has scored a career-high three goals and added seven assists leading the way for Utah blueliners with 10 points and leading the team with 100 penalty minutes.

The 6-3, 212-pound defenseman is third among active Grizzlies with 189 games played in a Utah uniform.

Joining Jancevski in the starting line-up are Bridgeport goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, Manchester defenseman Bryan Muir and forwards Benoit Gratton of Hamilton, Eric Perrin of Hershey and Jason Pominville of Rochester.
