Conservation highlights

The first legislation ever passed in Utah addressing quality growth, open space and critical lands protection issues. The conservancy was the first organization to put Utah's new Quality Growth Funds to use, protecting Black Island Farm through a conservation easement at the Great Salt Lake.

2001

Davis County Shorelands Plan

A cooperative venture between Davis County, nine municipalities, Envision Utah and the conservancy, the successful completion of the Davis County Shorelands Plan represented the first "regional" open space planning effort in Utah.

2003

Shorelands Preserve Visitors Center

With support of private contributors, the conservancy has built a visitors and interpretive center on the Great Salt Lake at the 4,000-acre Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve. It includes more than one mile of boardwalk, a 30-foot-high, two-tier observation tower, restroom facilities and an open-air pavilion.
