THOMPSON SPRINGS, Grand County — Sheriff's investigators in Grand County are trying to determine what happened to a 2 1/2-year-old girl found dead in her mother's car.

Just before 10 a.m. Friday, a motorist called the sheriff's office, saying he was with an injured woman on I- 70 near Thompson Springs. When deputies arrived, they found the 28-year-old Salt Lake City woman with several wounds that appeared to be self-inflicted, according to a sheriff's office news release. The office declined to specify the type of wounds.

She was taken to a nearby hospital in Price.

They also found the toddler dead. Her body was sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Investigators have not yet determined whether charges will be filed and what the charges would be, though the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
