Seely said UDOT's main concern would be safety at the intersections on 700 East and State Street in particular. A quick traffic model study done by UDOT showed that the impact of holding up traffic on those two major streets would be minimal. "We don't see it as being a huge problem but there would be some delay," Seely said, adding UDOT would require crossing arms with flashing lights as well as signs — all paid for by White.

It's a tall order for White, who works for a satellite dish company and who has worked on the Sugar House trolley plan during his off time. But White remains confident about his ability to get the line up and running.

Among his efforts, White has located the body of an original Salt Lake trolley. "It had become a chicken coop out in Duchesne County, then in the '70s a man turned it into a tour bus," White said. When he finally located it, the trolley car was decorating someone's back yard.

"I know it's going to take a lot of money," White said, adding several local attorneys, whom he did not want to name, have expressed an interest in helping to fund the project.

White said he is currently working on official proposals for both UTA and UDOT and hopes that others may join his efforts. As things progress as he hopes, White plans to also work on a trolley line in Draper, from 12600 South to the future TRAX station to be built in the area.

"It's not an impossibility, but it's going to take a lot of work," White said.
