OREM Police arrested an Orem man Wednesday who is accused of raping a young girl at his home.
According to Orem Police Lt. Doug Edwards, the girl told police in October that she was raped while visiting the man's Orem home during the summer of 1996. Only 8 at the time, the girl said the 62-year-old took her into his bedroom and locked the door before raping her.
Police investigated the incident for more than a month before making the arrest. The man was booked into the Utah County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 bail.
Edwards said the man was accused of another incident during the summer of 1996, resulting in a third-degree felony conviction. In that case, the man showed sexually explicit video material to a 15-year-old girl before exposing himself to her. That incident was reported immediately to the Orem police.
