The Wasatch Front is stuck in a temperature inversion, and the first chance for any relief will come this weekend.
Mark Eubank, KSL's chief meteorologist, said there's a chance cold air aloft could remove the inversion this weekend and move valley highs into the 40s.
Park City was 41 degrees Wednesday while Salt Lake City was only 36, he said. Eubank is predicting highs only in the 30s through Friday and lows in the high teens or 20s.
After this weekend, the next storm that could scour out the valley isn't coming until after Christmas, on Dec. 27.
Fortunately, he said, there has been little pollution or thick fog around this season.
Chances of a white Christmas are looking doubtful. Historically, Eubank said only 47 percent of the time does Salt Lake City International Airport have more than an inch of snow on the ground on Dec. 25.
