Preps of the week

BRAYDEN BELL, Brighton: This 6-foot-10 junior was a big reason why many college scouts showed up at the Smith's Ragu Classic basketball tournament at the E Center last weekend. He didn't disappoint either.

Bell scored a tournament-high 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds in leading Brighton to a win over Oakland Tech, Calif.

"He brings exceptional size to the floor," said coach Lyndon Johnson. "Not only is he 6-10, but he's strong. He also runs the floor well and shoots well."

Bell is the 74th ranked junior in the country, according to Futurestars, a top national college basketball service. He is being recruited by Kansas, Louisville, Gonzaga, BYU, Utah and New Mexico, among others.

KELSI REMUND, Wasatch: This senior has played with some of prep basketball's best the past two years, but now it's her turn to shine. And she's not wasting a minute. She's averaging almost 16 ppg as she leads the Wasps to a 5-0 record and a No. 19 in the statewide top 20 rankings.

"If there's a kid we want to stop, we put Kelsi on her," said Wasps coach Roger Pyper. "Offensively, she can do anything with the ball . . . She's just an all-purpose player. She's outgoing and gets along with everybody, but she's not afraid to tell them what they're doing wrong."

Remund was an all-state player in soccer and maintains a 3.97 GPA.
