Mary Isabelle Kay Snarr "Belle", born April 30, 1888, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Bridgette Agnes O'Connor Kay and Joseph Daniel Kay, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997 at Saint Joseph Villa, at the age of 109.
Mama Belle moved here with her parents, seven brothers and sisters in 1897 at the age of nine. She married her childhood sweetheart, the boy next door, James Thomas Snarr, in 1906. She was Secretary-Treasurer and bookkeeper for her husband's company Acme Printing & Stamp. Mama Belle loved her family and many friends who will remember her for her quick wit, sharp mind and sense of humor. Everyone dropped in on Mama Belle because she always loved to see you, always offered a cup of coffee, a slice of datenut bread and a sincerely empathetic ear. Young at heart and mind, she bowled until 92 and played poker and bridge until she was 104.She is preceded in death by her husband, son, Dentley Kay Snarr and great-grandsons, John Ellsworth Rapp and Matthew Alexander Ellsworth, as well as her five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Laureta Snarr Ellsworth and son-in-law, Lewis T. Ellsworth, granddaughter, Joyce Ellsworth Rapp (John), grandson, Lewis James Ellsworth (Penny), grandson, Lynn Snarr Ellsworth (Kay), grandson, Steven Kay Ellsworth (Gale), 10 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.
Belle's family expresses their sincere appreciation to the sisters of Saint Joseph Villa, her physician and the staff on One East.
Funeral Mass Saturday, June 28, 1997, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Saint Joseph Villa. Entombment, Larkin Sunset Lawn Mausoleum.
