Holiday parades abound

The holiday season kicks into high gear this weekend with lighting ceremonies and parades. Festivities include:

• Friday, West Valley City's Christmas parade begins at 9 a.m. at 3450 W. 3500 South and proceeds east to Market Street, where it turns and travels south on Lancer Way. It ends in the Valley Fair Mall parking lot.

• Friday, Salt Lake City's Main Street and Temple Square holiday lights will be switched on about 5:30 p.m. A program starts at 5:15 p.m. on Main Street at 50 South. Santa will arrive on a Harley with the Jazz Bear. There will be elves on stilts, jugglers, music and treats.

At 6 p.m., the event moves to the Gallivan Center for ice skating; then at 7 p.m. to the Gateway's Olympic Legacy Plaza, where there will be a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, choirs, an appearance by Kurt Bestor and more.

• Friday, Bountiful's Electric Light Holiday Parade begins at 6:30 p.m., going along Main Street and ending at the Bountiful City Center. There, a lighting ceremony will be held and Santa will make an appearance.

• Saturday, Provo's annual holiday parade begins at 10 a.m., starting at 1060 North and heading down University Avenue to 100 South. An added attraction this year will be the Utah Jazz Dancers.

• Saturday, Ogden's annual parade starts at 5:30 p.m. at 2200 Washington Blvd. and goes south to the 2600 block, with the theme of "The Most Magical Time of the Year."

• Saturday, Kaysville's Electric Light Parade starts at 6 p.m. at Davis High and goes north along Main Street. It will be preceded at 5:45 p.m. by a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at City Hall. Also on Saturday, there will be a Christmas creche celebration, noon-9 p.m., at the Kaysville LDS Tabernacle, 198 W. Center St.
