SAN ANTONIO The Utah Grizzlies (3-7-1-2) could not control the potent San Antonio offense in the third period as the Rampage scored four third-period goals in a 6-3 victory Sunday at the SBC Center.
San Antonio got off to a quick start, scoring the game's first two goals in the first seven minutes. Lee Goren redirected a Michel Periard point shot past Mike Smith for a power-play goal. San Antonio added a second first-period goal when Eric Beaudoin made contact with Smith and directed the puck into the empty net all in one motion.
The Grizzlies countered with a power-play goal of their own by Rob Valicevic, his first goal of the season, assisted by Dylan Gyori and Trevor Daley.
Utah dominated the second period, outshooting San Antonio 9-3 and getting a goal from Steve Gainey. But in the third, San Antonio scored four goals, three of which came in a five-minute stretch.
The Grizzlies return to action Wednesday night against the Manitoba Moose at the E Center at 7 p.m.
