The race for Salt Lake mayor between Rocky Anderson and Frank Pignanelli will be scrutinized Tuesday by more than 300 students from BYU and UVSC in the KBYU/Utah Colleges Exit Poll.

Based on information gathered from questionnaires created by 15 BYU students, faculty in BYU's political science and statistics departments will predict the results of the race between Rocky Anderson and Frank Pignanelli on KBYU-TV Channel 11 at 8 p.m. when the polls close.

The poll usually is conducted in even years, but this race attracted enough attention to prompt a unique effort, said Kelly Patterson, chair of the political science department.

The Utah Colleges Exit Poll has collected voter information for two decades. The projections are typically within one percent of actual vote totals, Patterson said. The exercise is designed to delve into voters' decisions and to give students an opportunity to study public opinion.
