Anderson has vision

I am very encouraged by the recent news that the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office and Union Pacific are approaching an agreement about the realignment of the curve at Grant Tower and the removal of the east-west bypass line at 900 South. My understanding of this project is that it could ultimately include raising City Creek to the surface from 500 West to the Jordan River, thereby providing a pedestrian link from downtown to the west side.

The benefits to the city of establishing trails that link east and west sides and placing freight trains back on the main line are too great to calculate. The Glendale and Poplar Grove neighborhoods, which have suffered significant losses of property values since the 900 South line was activated for heavy freight, could renew their work toward becoming a thriving urban neighborhood, proud and confident in their working class and immigrant roots. Union Pacific could take its place once again as a caring and responsible industrial partner to the city and state.

I believe Rocky Anderson has this vision for our city and I think he has learned from the hard issues he has faced this past four years. I therefore support the re-election of Rocky Anderson as Salt Lake City mayor.
