Elizabeth Smart no longer shares a bedroom and double bed with her little sister.
She has a new, grown-up room, decorated with a signed Sandra Bullock poster from the movie "Miss Congeniality," twin beds and dried flower bundles that are remnants of hundreds sent from well-wishers welcoming her home.
Talk show Oprah Winfrey devoted her one-hour syndicated show to Elizabeth Smart's story Monday, adding her own folksy flavor and emotion to a media blitz about the girl's kidnapping that corresponds with the release of a book written by her parents.
"You're rockin' in here sister," Winfrey said on a quick tour of the girl's new bedroom.
The show is another in a string of recent media appearances by the Smart family coinciding with Monday's release of a book by Elizabeth's parents, Ed and Lois Smart, on their experiences through the kidnapping ordeal.
On Friday, Americans watched as Elizabeth Smart galloped her horse on the family ranch and chatted with Katie Couric, host of NBC's "Today Show."
In the Monday piece, her parents welcomed Winfrey into their home the first media person since the ordeal.
Also, Winfrey's show aired the same day the Smarts' book hit newsstands at Wal-Mart. Today, "Bringing Elizabeth Home: A Journey of Faith and Hope," will be released nationally.
In addition to the book, the Smarts have approved a made-for-TV movie that will air Nov. 9 on CBS.
Meanwhile, the court case against Elizabeth's alleged captors, Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee, is on hold while mental competency evaluations are completed.
Mitchell and Barzee, who are charged with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and aggravated sexual assault, were spotted March 12 walking down State Street in Sandy with Elizabeth.
From in front of the Smarts' Federal Heights home, Winfrey said the family was living "the epitome of the American Dream" before a kidnapper stole her from her home more than a year ago.
Film footage showed Winfrey hugging and laughing with Lois, Ed and Elizabeth, then the couple showed Winfrey where they believe Mitchell entered the bedroom Elizabeth shared with her little sister Mary Katherine, and how he moved through the house and up a rough path behind the house afterward.
