Rush should not go to jail

In the Readers' Forum, Robert Hildebrand (Oct. 22) convolutes both reason and facts regarding Rush Limbaugh's addiction to prescription drugs. Hildebrand criticizes the U.S. justice system as being two-tiered, arguing that because Limbaugh "is rich and famous," he will "merely go to rehab while the average citizens go to jail." He then suggests that because Limbaugh has publicly professed that "no one should be above the law," Limbaugh should go to jail for 10 years to humiliate him.

I don't believe we have ever thrown in jail an "average citizen" who has Limbaugh's problem, is seeking medical help and has a clean criminal record. What Hildebrand is really arguing for is two-tiered prejudice.
