Judge Memorial's Pat Smyth didn't seem too bothered by the heat, as he once again showcased his talents in winning the 3A boys' title. Smyth held off Ogden's Brett Hales by just over five seconds for the title. The Bulldogs also enjoyed a sixth-place finish from Nik Hlady, and Ogden's Victor Rodriguez finished fifth. But the team trophy in 3A went to Cedar, which placed its five scoring runners in the top 18 to hold off Judge for the championship. A school known for its outstanding track programs, Cedar won its first-ever state boys cross country title on Wednesday. Junior Jeremy Johnson was Cedar's top finisher, coming home seventh.
North Summit won its first 2A boys title as well, as senior Johnny Rodrigues traversed the park in a time of 16:49.2. Manti's Jacob Howell was second, and Royce Orme of Juab was third. Defending team champ Richfield was second. Rodrigues' teammates Jordan Snyder, Riley Matthews and Jonathan Snyder also had top-20 finishes for the Indian Braves.
