CROSS COUNTRY: BYU junior Kip Kangogo and senior All-American Michaela Mannova have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's athletes of the week, respectively.

The award is Kangogo's third this season and fifth in his two-year Cougar career. Saturday, he finished first in the Pre-Nationals Meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with a season-best and course-record time of 23 minutes, 10 seconds in the eight-kilometer race.

Mannova crossed the finish line second overall in the women's Pre-Nationals. Her time of 20:02 is a season-best and helped BYU to a first-place finish in the 6K race. The award is Mannova's third overall and second this fall.

TRACK & FIELD: BYU sprint coach Leonard Myles-Mills, representing his home country of Ghana, anchored his 4X100-meter team to win the gold medal at the All-African Games earlier this month in Nigeria with a time of 38.63. Myles-Mills also won an individual bronze medal at the games in the 100 meters, placing third at 10.03 seconds.

"I am so glad that finally he is healthy and it couldn't be at a better time," said BYU men's head track coach Mark Robison. "This is the fastest he has run since 1999. It sets him up to be ready for the Olympics, the ultimate in athletic competition."

Myles-Mills, a native of Dansoma Accra, Ghana, has represented his country in international competition since he qualified for the national team in 1998. He placed third that year in the 100-meters at the African Championships in Senegal, which qualified him to compete in the World Cup in Athletics in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 1999, he won first place at the All-African Games, also held in Johannesburg.

He competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, leading in his semifinal heat before suffering a leg injury. He also advanced to the 100-meter quarterfinals of the 2003 Track and Field World Championships.

Myles-Mills earned three All-American citations while running at BYU from 1996-1999. In his junior and senior season, he won back-to-back NCAA titles in the 100. He also ran on BYU's All-American 400-meter relay team that finished third at the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The Cougars will play at Wyoming Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 18 Colorado State Saturday at 7 p.m. Entering the second half of their conference schedule, the Cougars (15-5 overall) currently sit in third place in the Mountain West Conference standings with a 5-2 record.
