Web wonders: Internet author stresses technology simplicity

"I think we're still at the crawling stages. I don't think we've seen anything yet. A lot of people, because of the whole dot-com boom, think, well, we're settled in and we're maybe done. But I think this is still in its infancy."

Current factors at work include wireless and high-speed services, such as Qwest's DSL. Those will cause more people to use the Internet, become more dependent on it and use it more frequently, he said.

And, of course, that likely will lead to an even more cluttered Net, making his simplification goal that much more challenging.

"I look at things and try to get outside my body and think about the average person. They don't care that much about technology; they just want to use it for something. There are all these techies of the world that make things so difficult, like needing 17 clickers for your TV, but try to simplify things," Leebow said.

"If you do things online randomly and blindly, you may never walk away from the monitor."
