Staff sought for yule shop

There are countless opportunities to volunteer in the community. No special skills are necessary other than a desire to help others. Christmas Box International, Salt Lake County Christmas Box, Utah Foster Care Foundation: Volunteers needed to help with the Christmas Store Dec. 13-20. Help organize the store and help foster and shelter families shop for the holidays.

Community Services Council: Donate wrapping paper for senior citizens' holiday food boxes.

DDI Vantage: Sponsor a family for a Sub-for-Santa-type program during the holidays. Help is needed for low-income families with children that have developmental delays or disabilities.

Fall leaf haul: Individuals and groups needed to help rake leaves for the homebound elderly and disabled. Kicks off Nov. 8 and continues through fall.

The Family Center: Assist with Christmas program for the center's clients. Hours flexible and need is immediate.

Harmony Hospice: Provide friendship and encouragement to patients and their families enduring life-limiting illnesses. Training provided.

Homeless Youth Resource Center: Donations of hygiene products, sleeping bags, thermal underwear, hand warmers, backpacks, sewing kits, bus tokens and calling cards are needed. Also need volunteers to serve dinner on Friday nights and help with general office work.

Kid's Cafe-Utah Food Bank: Prepare, serve and clean up meals for at-risk children Monday through Friday, two- to three-hour shifts.

Life Care Bank: Dedicated individual needed to help senior citizens access prescription assistance through the major pharmaceutical companies. Volunteer should be comfortable talking on the phone and dealing with clients in person.

Make a Wish Foundation: Become a Wish Ambassador or Wish Consultant and spread the word to the public. Public speaking skills helpful, flexible schedule. Also need clerical volunteer.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Help low-income seniors with household chores, curtains, light housekeeping and yard work. Help always needed with mailings and data entry.

No More Homeless Pets: Donations needed of pet food, brushes, animal carriers, paper towels, cat beds, chew bones, Polaroid film and carpet samples.
