With the school's first region title safely under its belts, the West Ridge baseball team is setting its sights on even bigger hardware this week.

The undefeated Eagles are the clear favorite heading into the 1A baseball tournament which begins with Monday's quarterfinals.

Region 17 champ West Ridge (19-0) hosts Green River (11-8) in the first meeting between the schools this year. The Pirates were the runner-ups in Region 15 behind Panguitch.

With a victory, West Ridge would face the winner of Panguitch/East Carbon in one of Friday's semifinals. Panguitch (19-1) and East Carbon (7-3) have yet to meet this year, but the Bobcats should have no problem advancing.

The quarterfinals in the bottom half of the bracket include St. Joseph (12-6) visiting Dugway (15-4), and Valley (10-8) facing Waterford (17-4) at Gunnison High School.

Dugway went perfect 10-0 en route to the Region 18 title this year, while St. Joseph was the third-place team in Region 17. In the only meeting between the teams this year, Dugway scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for a 6-5 victory.

Waterford and Valley both finished second in their respective regions, but the Ravens are the clear favorite in this quarterfinal game. In a previous meeting between the two teams, Waterford crushed Valley 13-1.

The semifinals will be held at UVSC at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The championship game is schedule for Saturday at 1 p.m.
