In a game in which both teams combined for 78 points, the Northridge Knights came out on top of the Viewmont Vikings, 48-30, Friday.

It was not as easy as it sounds, though. With 1:51 left in the fourth quarter, the Vikings' Travis Chadwick caught a 6-yard touchdown pass that brought Viewmont to within five points of the Knights.

Viewmont attempted an onside kick, Northridge recovered and added an exclamation point with two touchdowns in the final 1:30.

Northridge running back Jamar Lee scored on a 52-yard touchdown run with 98 seconds left to put the game out of reach. Lee had a busy night, with three touchdowns. Two of the scores came off runs of 51 and 52 yards, and the other on a 97-yard kickoff return.

Looking at the scoreboard, one would think that the game was exciting — one that you didn't want to look away for fear you may miss something. It was, after the first quarter.

In the first stanza both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Neither team scored, as a result of turnovers and drive-killing penalties. The Vikings began the second quarter with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Anderson on the first play of the quarter. The touchdown was set up by an interception. And that was just the beginning of the big plays. On the next drive, Lee began his big night with a 51-yard scamper down the sideline and into the end zone.

Northridge kept the heat on in its next drive as Cameron Pribble caught a pass of 60 yards for a score. Northridge capped off the explosive second quarter with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Tage Clifford with only five seconds left on the clock. The touchdown finished a 60-yard drive that took only 36 seconds because of good clock management by the Knights' coaching staff. The Knight defense also came up big stopping drives in the second half. Bryant Eteuati led the way with two interceptions. Lynwood Johnson also had a 16-yard sack in the fourth quarter to stall a Viking drive.
