Deadline for companies to register teams in the Summer Corporate Games is July 7 with a variety of events getting underway July 29.
The program, now in its fourth year under the direction of the Salt Lake City Parks and Recreation Department, is sponsored by the Deseret News, Golden Spoon Yogurt, Hardee's and IHC Health Plans.More than 5,000 participants from 80 area companies competed in last year's winter and summer corporate games and more are expected this year, according to Patty Price, a program official.
And this year offers some unusual events, including a Frisbee contest and a raft race.
All companies in the Salt Lake metropolitan area are eligible to enter a team in one of three divisions based on the number of employees. Division one consists of companies with up to 100 employees; division two includes companies with 101 to 450 employees, and division three is for those with 451 or more.
Entry fees, also based on company size, cover all expenses for referees, officials, food and similar expenses, but not T-shirts. Deadline to order shirts is July 7 without exception. Complete information, including other guidelines for participation, may be obtained by calling the parks and recreation department at 972-7839.
This year's summer games include archery, a 5K run, horseshoes, rifle shoot, swimming, tennis, golf, softball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, raft race and tug-of-war. Companies may select any of the events although all teams must participate in the raft race and tug-of-war.
The raft race will be held at Raging Waters, 1200 W. 1700 South, with the use of rubber tubes while the waves are on, Price said.
