SPRINGVILLE — Jamie Hatfield has played every position for the Springville girls' soccer team. Defense, midfield, forward — she's played it. And no matter the position, Hatfield always comes through.

On Thursday, she scored three goals to lead Springville to a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Payson in Region 6 girls' soccer.

"Whatever I need, that's where I put her," Springville coach Mikelle Roth said. "I've even started playing her at forward and I never used to do that. I move her all over the field depending on what we need. She gives it to us every game." Against Payson it took Hatfield and the rest of the team 40 minutes before they were able to get in a flow.

Less than a minute into a game, the Lions took a 1-0 lead when Kira Lazenby scored on a cross-pass from Chelsea Jensen.

Springville had many opportunities to score in the first half but was unlucky in finding the back of the net. In the 25th minute Red Devil Jessie Bench fired a shot that bounced off the right cross bar and rolled all the way across the front of the goal before rolling out. Bench also created several other chances for Springville before halftime.

"The first half I was more than disgusted with the way my team played," Roth said. "It was awful. We just don't have that killer instinct to put it in the net."

Roth's halftime speech paid off. Four minutes into the second half Springville tied the game at one on Hatfield's first goal of the game. The score was set up when she received a cross pass from McCaye Tobler near the right corner of the box.

Hatfield then gave Springville the lead for good at 2-1 in the 57th minute when connected on a 25-yard free kick. Her final goal came on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

"She's the most skilled player on our team and the strongest," Roth said.

"It all goes through her. I'm glad she stepped it up. She has in most games, but this game she really stepped it up."

Tobler scored Springville's final goal in the 65th minute when she followed a shot taken by Brittany Siddoway.

Toward the end of the game Lazenby scored Payson's final goal on a penalty kick.

"Payson is a good team," Roth said. "They pass and move to the ball well. I don't know that my team believed me until the game started."
