The Salt Lake YouthCity after-school program starts again on Sept. 17, and space is still available for elementary- and middle-school-age students.
The program offers a variety of activities including visual art, filmmaking, chess, gardening, skateboarding and dance, from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from noon to 6 p.m. Fridays. Interested parents can call YouthCity coordinator Ken Perko at 538-2062, Ext. 231, or attend an orientation this Wednesday or Thursday evening from 6 to 7 p.m.
Both the orientations and the YouthCity classes are held at the Central City Recreation Center, 615 S. 300 East. YouthCity staffers can pick up children from most local schools, and they provide snacks and all materials for the activities. Fees are on a sliding scale, as low as $1 per week, depending on income and family size. The after-school program is sponsored by the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office.
