A former Division of Family Services supervisor pleaded guilty last week to attempted possession of a controlled substance, a Class B misdemeanor.

William Woods Rogers, 49, was scheduled to stand trial Thursday but accepted a plea bargain with Utah County prosecutors April 24. A charge of attempted possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed.Rogers worked for Family Services for more than 23 years. He formerly served as a supervisor of caseworkers in the Provo Child Protection Services office. He later worked as an intake officer for children involved in abuse situations.

Fourth Circuit Judge Joseph I. Dimick fined Rogers $100. The judge ordered Rogers to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow the recommended treatment. If he has no further offenses in the next two years, the charge could be dismissed.

Rogers' wife, Claudine, and 18-year-old daughter, Califfa, pleaded guilty to the same reduced charge in February. They also were fined $100. The Utah County Narcotics Enforcement Team raided Rogers' Mapleton home on Oct. 10 and found marijuana.

Rogers faced similar charges in 1994 after police raided his home in Orem. Prosecutors dismissed the charges, however, when Rogers' daughter testified in his trial that the marijuana and rolling papers seized from the home belonged to her.
