Jim Campbell, a former Utah Education Association president and assistant principal at Timpview High School, pleaded guilty last week in 4th Circuit Court to two misdemeanor theft charges.

In a plea bargain with Provo prosecutors, the pleas will be held in abeyance for one year and the charges could be dismissed if Campbell successfully completes the terms of probation. One charge is a Class B misdemeanor and one a Class A misdemeanor. The terms of the agreement, which Campbell agreed to on April 15, require him to pay a fine of $300 and complete 70 hours of community service. He was charged with the crimes in December after videotapes showed he was stealing school gate receipts and other revenues.

Campbell was first suspended by Provo School District with pay, but the sus-pension was later changed to without pay. He resigned in February after Superintendent Michael Jacobsen notified him that the district intended to terminate him with cause.

Campbell served three years as UEA president. He resigned from that post in April 1990 after being questioned about travel and credit card expenses. UEA officials said Campbell settled with the organization before leaving his post.
