CRASH IN SARDINE CANYON KILLS 2 CACHE RESIDENTS

A head-on collision in Sardine Canyon took the lives of two Cache County residents early Sunday morning.

Killed:Juliet Latu Fine, 25, Hyrum.

Michael Horspool, 19, Logan.

A Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher said the accident occurred about 7:30 a.m. when a car driven by Horspool drifted into the westbound lane of U.S. 91 about one mile north of Mantua. Trooper Jim Lindsey said it appeared both cars swerved to avoid the accident but hit head-on in the center of the road.

Fine, who was driving west, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers are reported in serious condition at local hospitals. Karatel Phillip, 24, Logan, and Helen Latu, 25, Hyrum (Fine's sister), have both been transferred to McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, and are in serious condition in the ICU. Julius Airam, 27, Hyrum, is listed in stable condition at Brigham City Community Hospitall.

Horspool, who was traveling alone, was flown to McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, where he died of injuries suffered in the accident.

The dispatcher said only Horspool was wearing a seat belt.
