DESERET BOOK OPENS OUTLET FOR DISCOUNT ITEMS IN S.L.

Deseret Book opened its new Outlet Store Monday at the company's distribution center, 2150 W. 1500 South.

A Deseret Book spokesman said the store offers discounts on old, damaged, discontinued, or defective books, audio products, and other merchandise.Selected new products will be available to customers.

Most of the outlet's inventory will be drawn from Deseret Book's 26 retail stores in Utah and six other states. The spokesman said the company intends to double the value of the merchandise by offering customers the opportunity to earn up to 20 percent off new products when they purchase discounted items.

Outlet manager Roger Bowen and seven associates will operate the new store.

Roger Toone, vice president of Deseret Book's retail division, said the company also is actively pursuing publisher close-outs and damaged books from local publishers.

During the grand opening Aug. 14-31, customers will receive additional discounts on merchandise and will be eligible for prize drawings.
