A Trident 2 submarine missile was successfully launched from a ground pad Monday in the 16th test of the powerful weapon system and the first since a missile was deliberately blown up in September.

The three-stage $23.7 million missile blasted off from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at 9:30 a.m. MST and quickly streaked through a clear blue sky and out of sight. The flight appeared normal but, as with all such test firings, no details were provided other than a brief statement from the Air Force that said the test was a success.
