ANTELOPE ISLAND STATE PARK — Antelope Island State Park has set a Memorial Day visitation record.
Antelope Island Park Manager Ron Taylor says that on Memorial Day, the Fielding Garr Ranch House on the island had 2,133 visitors, and the visitor center had 1,392 visitors. Some people may have visited both sites.
Last year, 595 people visited the ranch, and 690 stopped at the visitor center on Memorial Day.
Over this year's three-day Memorial Day weekend, 4,422 visitors came to the island. Last year, the number was 2,451.
Taylor says good weather, better marketing and a slowed economy that's forcing people to stay closer to home have contributed to the uptick in visitors.
