Rose Park Elementary School will become Salt Lake School District's fifth school to switch to a year-round calendar.
The Salt Lake Board of Education has approved the school's request to move to year-round. Other year-round elementaries are Bennion, Franklin, Whittier and Parkview. The change was approved after parents voted in favor of year-round. Of the ballots sent to parents, 57 percent were returned. Of the returned ballots, 61 percent backed a year-round schedule and 39 percent voted against the switch.
The year-round schools open in mid-July. Because Rose Park is not air conditioned, the district must install air conditioning.
Steve Harman, director of buildings and grounds, said the new air conditioning, which will cost $175,000, should be ready for the 1991-92 school year.
