Motorists in Sandy City, tired of waiting in stalled traffic each morning along 13th East between 72nd South and 78th South, will soon get relief.
Salt Lake County crews will begin widening the road Monday. The project comes more than a year after county commissioners decided to postpone the project and give extra money instead to the sheriff and to firefighters.
Construction is expected to be completed in November, officials said. Drivers should try to avoid the road.
Sandy City officials were angered last year when the county decided to delay the project. Sandy spent more than $1 million in recent years to widen its portion of the road. As a result, morning commuters have had to funnel from four lanes in Sandy to two lanes in the unincorporated county.
