The Northwest Pipeline Corp. donated $25,000 to the Shelter the Homeless Committee Wednesday, bringing a Salt Lake homeless facility closer to opening day, officials said.
Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis accepted the check for the private, non-profit organization, which is building a family and men's homeless shelter at 210 S. Rio Grande St.DePaulis said the contribution will help "get the doors open in November" by enabling the committee to pay for furnishings, appliances and services. DePaulis pointed to the Thanksgiving holidays as a possible opening date for the facility.
Most of the costs of building the facility have been paid for through private contributions. Additional contributions will be put into a trust fund to cover operational, maintenance and capital outlays at the facility, DePaulis said.
