"Loving Father"
Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loving husband to mom, Douglas Laursen, passed away on Oct. 16, 2004 surrounded by his loving family and kind staff of the Salt Lake City VA Hospital.
Dad was born October 2, 1922 in American Fork, the son of William and Lulu Snider Laursen. He married the love of his life, Margarett Jean Myers, on Sept. 6, 1946 in Ely, Nevada; their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Dad graduated from Utah State University and later received his MEd from the University of Utah. He had a career with the Union Pacific Railroad and taught school in Midway and Granite School District for 30 years, mostly teaching at Olympus Jr. High. Dad was a sweet and gentle giant. He loved everyone he met and they loved him. Dad was a proud veteran of World War II, serving his country in the US Navy.
Douglas is survived by his children: Thomas (Alene) Laursen, Becky (Darwin) Jones, Lee (Peggy), Jon, Paul (Janell); 25 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Margarett; parents; brothers, John and Billy; sister, Betty; grandson, Cody.
Such a great life lived by a great man! Dad, we love you very much.
