Robert Henry Linford

1923 ~ 2008

Robert Henry Linford died May 14, 2008 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born July 1, 1923 in Panguitch, Utah. His parents were Joseph Henry Linford and Luella Rowena Orton Linford.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Sylvia, Denny, Jean, Mary Dee, and Vetta Linford.

Robert attended schools in Panguitch where he was Student Body President and Salutatorian of Panguitch High School. He later attended Branch Agricultural College (SUU) in Cedar City.

He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and later served in the Korean Conflict. He has resided in Cedar City for 62 years.

He married his high school sweetheart, Helen Seaman, and they were sealed in the St. George Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, two daughters, Lois Linford Williams, Bobette Linford Clark and son Byron Robert Linford. Also survived by sons-in-law, Hugh Williams, Wayne Clark, and daughter-in-law, Terri Linford. Robert has five grand-children: Kimberly Black, Brandon Clark, Brooke, Ashley and Reagan Linford. He has two great-grandchildren, Cooper Clark and Emmett Black. He is also survived by many foster children, including nieces and nephews. Those foster children include: Florence Dalley, Cecil

Spencer, Fred Englestead, Judy Laub and Denise Oldham.

Robert was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Ward Clerk, Bishopric Counselor, Stake MIA Superintendent, Stake High Council, Bishop and 1st Counselor in the Stake Presidency and a very dedicated Home Teacher.

For more than 50 years Robert and Helen taught dancing. They served as Ward, Stake, District and Regional Dance Directors. They went on to teach ballroom dancing for many years, even up to the present time.

Robert Linford served the community of Cedar City in many different capacities. He was President of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), Cedar City Music Arts committee and a member of the Shakespeare Guild. He served as Mayor of Cedar City for eight years, from 1982-1989. He later served on the Cedar City Planning Commission and on the Board of Trustees of Dixie State

College.

Robert was a lifetime supporter of the Boy Scouts program, serving as the Cedar Breaks District Chairman and received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.
