Connie died as the victim of a hit-and-run accident in Lexington, Kentucky, on April 13, 2008. She was 18. Connie was finishing her freshman year at the University of Kentucky as a student in Equestrian Science. Her death occurred as she was crossing the street at a major intersection near her campus residence.Connie's father, Jack, as a corporate executive moved the family to Park City when Connie was a preschooler. She became an avid skier at age three. The family moved from Park City and then returned a second time, and Park City became her home. Connie was a graduate of Park City High School in May 2007.
Connie began her journey to develop equestrian expertise in Denver, Colorado, earning more than 150 ribbons and awards. She took her two horses, Luke and Sam, with her to the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the University Equestrian Team.
Connie was a vivacious young lady who enjoyed life. On her Facebook wall she placed her philosophy of sharing happiness, "Smile. It's the simplest way to share joy." Comments reported on her Facebook expressing tributes of her joy and spirit included: "She was so full of life and would do anything for anybody;" "She was so in tune with other people's feelings, and she would sacrifice her sleep or time to help out a friend."
A memorial service requested by her fellow students on campus was attended by more that 400 students, faculty, and friends with standing room only at the Baptist Student Center on campus, this past Monday night.
She is survived by her parents, an older brother, Thor of Carrollton, GA; an older sister, Kelley Ann Krohnert and her husband, Paul of Austell, GA.
