Dorothy O'Neil Burton

1922 ~ 2008

Dorothy Eileen O'Neil Burton of Bountiful passed away 28 March 2008 after a lengthy illness. She married Melvin Poulter Burton in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, December 30, 1965. They had 43 wonderful years together. Though they were not blessed with children, their many nieces and nephews became their family.Dorothy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah March 20, 1922 to parents, Charles Preistly O'Neil and

Annie Louisa Hobson. She was an elect lady who served faithfully in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in positions of trust and responsibility. She was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang with the Schubert Singers, and later with her husband, Mel, and niece Jeneil in the Oratorio Society of Utah for many years. Church service was very important to her. She conducted choirs using her talent wherever needed in both Ward and Stake levels.

Her many talents included music, genealogy research, gardening, photography, crocheting and most of all, her love of accounting in which she excelled, following in the footsteps of her father. She attended LDS Business College where she studied accounting. Dorothy worked for many years at Staples/Roy Price Chevrolet as office manager and

accountant.

By working for Miriam's as office manager and accountant, she was able to save for a mission when called to the British Isles where she served in 1954-1955. Gordon B. Hinckley of the Missions Dept interviewed her. She was thrilled to return to the birthplace of her parents, though it was with a heavy heart that she left her parents at that time as they were both in poor health, but supported her fully in her desire to serve her Heavenly Father. She served as the mission accountant. Her mission was extended when asked to stay an additional three months to assist the new mission president.

After their retirement, Mel and Dorothy traveled to exciting and faraway places, taking advantage of great opportunities to see the world. They served a mission together from 1988-1989 to the Boston, Massachusetts Mission, where she again served as the mission

accountant.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband; a sister, Kathleen A. O'Neil Blamires of Kaysville, Utah; two brothers, C. Brian O'Neil of Layton, Utah; and Kenneth D. O'Neil of Meridian, Idaho; along with nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss her ready smile.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister-in-law, Dorothy

Peterson O'Neil and a brother-in-law, Clifford C. Blamires.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2008 at the 54th Ward Chapel, 540 N. 1200 E., Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends may visit Wed. evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main and Thurs. 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Kaysville City Cemetery.

The family expresses special thanks to the doctors and nurses and to the incredible staff at the Orchard Cove Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and loving care to Dorothy and the family.
